About this spotlight

Both Rotorua Girls' High School Childcare Trust and Grasslands Kindergarten have found that e-portfolios offer many benefits to children, families/whānau and teachers. Expertise was gained through careful attention to cybersafety and by developing a shared purpose for blogs as a platform for e-portfolios. By trialling e-portfolios with a limited number of families before going 'live', issues around purpose, accessibility and manageability were resolved.

Grasslands Kindergarten

Grasslands Kindergarten is located in Hamilton. Their diverse community includes a large number of families who identify as NZ Māori, which means the centre receives equity funding. The Kindergarten's philosophy identifies whakawhanaungatanga – families and extended whānau as partners in their children's education – as central. The centre runs both sessional and school-day sessions, and caters for children aged from three- to five-years-old.
