About this spotlight
After heavy rainfall during one weekend the children at Tots Corner explored the properties of this gift from the skies. They engaged in conversations about the preciousness of water, which lead to an amazing journey investigating drains. ICT became one of the many tools of investigation and provocation. The teachers' belief that learning is co-constructed supported the children's endeavours.

Tots Corner provides education and care for 37 children, between six-months and five-years-old, of predominantly professional families. It is housed in a historic villa on Auckland's North Shore and has been operating here since 1993. The centre is divided into three areas consisting of infants, toddlers, and young children, with teaching teams based loosely on children's age bands.
The teaching team has been together for a considerable time. The eight registered teachers have engaged in ongoing multifaceted professional learning for many years and are proud of the flexibility of thinking, innovative ideas and the 'new ways of doing' they continue to explore. The teaching team's pedagogical approach is reflected in the established learning community in which the perspectives of children, parents and teachers are equally valued. Learning is viewed as a collaborative process where information is shared. ICT enables this sharing and supports both children and teachers to reflect, revisit and make learning visible. The teaching team welcomes the complex and ongoing challenge of developing and deepening pedagogical documentation.
