If children are using a computer in ways that bring complexity, engagement and meaning to their learning then what considerations need to be given to health and safety for both children and adults? This question led the teachers at Greenhithe Kindergarten to investigate ways to make their ICT environment ergonomically sound.
Centre: Greenhithe Kindergarten
Greenhithe Kindergarten is located in North Shore City, Auckland, in the village of Greenhithe. The kindergarten was purpose built in 1995 and caters for sixty children in total, who attend either five morning sessions or four afternoon sessions. There are two permanent teachers, two regular relieving teachers, and the kindergarten enjoys close community support. The head teacher, Margaret, has been at the kindergarten since its inception, and has encouraged a culture of safety and innovation. Along with her co-teacher, Chris, Margaret has a keen interest in ICT integration into teaching and learning programmes.
