Characteristics of effective practices

Findings from early childhood professional development programmes

Over the years the Ministry of Education has funded some professional development (PD) initiatives in the early childhood sector.  These have included programmes to support the implementation of Te Whāriki, Kei Tua o te Pae Assessment for LearningFoundations for Discovery Information Communications Technology (ICT) strategy and the Centres of Innovation (COI) programme.  This page links to a series of pages that offer practical ideas for early childhood educators derived from the above programmes that have been shown to have positive outcomes for infants, toddlers and young children.

These effective practice points are designed for:

  • Sharing with your staff and whānau
  • Starting a professional dialogue, debate, discussion
  • Fostering ongoing support for all early education educators

We hope that the content of this area will grow as you share practices that work effectively in your settings.
