Te Whāriki is the Ministry of Education’s early childhood curriculum policy statement. Te Whāriki is a framework for supporting tamariki / children’s early learning within a sociocultural context. It emphasises the learning partnership between kaiako/teachers, parents, children and whānau/family.
Kei Tua o Te Pae / Assessment for Learning is a best practice resource that informs assessment practice in early childhood education. The four principles of Te Whāriki provide the framework for Kei Tua o te Pae.
Early Childhood Education services must meet the licensing criteria for their service type and the regulatory requirements contained in the Education (Early Childhood Services) Regulations 2008. There are curriculum regulations and licensing criteria for centre based services, Ngā Kōhanga reo, home based services, hospital based services and playgroups.
