Hutt Family Day Care Limited

Hutt Family Day Care Limited is a home-based service located in Lower Hutt offering education and care services in educators' homes.

Innovation

Hutt Family Day Care takes the view that transitions are being made by everyone involved in the care arrangement – children, their families, educators and coordinators. They have an innovative, intricate ‘matching’ process at the time of a new child’s entry to the home-based network.

Centres of Innovation (COI) research

The research explores practices and systems that foster a sense of well-being for young children and their families as they transition from home to ‘forma’ home-based education and care settings.

The major research questions were:

How do beliefs, practices and systems influence learning as children move from home into home-based early childhood education?
What beliefs, practices and systems contribute to positive transitioning processes and how do these transition processes support children's learning in children's first critical life transitions from their homes?

Please note, this project is no longer active. To conclude the work that was undertaken, analysis and collation of the data collected during 2006 and 2007 is currently in progress along with a review of relevant papers and publications. Information and findings from this analysis will be made available to the sector when completed.
